Compared to the previous version, the much awaited Xiaomi Redmi 3 ditched the plastic cover for a full metal outfit, complete with some nifty laced designs on the rear. The budget smartphone hasn’t compromised on the specs, keeping up with Xiaomi’s tradition of offering high-quality products at low prices.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 sports a five-inch display, metal casing but no fingerprint scanner as it predecessor did. Leaving this strange feature missing aside, Xiaomi Redmi 3 has a surprise in store. The pleasant surprise is the revamped battery, now a 4100 mAh battery. Compared to the previous version of the budget smartphone, the new battery adds 80 percent more talk time.
In addition, one can expect a host of other specs with the new Xiaomi Redmi 3. For instance, a powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor adds to the 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage readily available on the device. Xiaomi Redmi 3 also packs a 13MP rear camera and for the selfie-lovers out there, a 5MP front camera.
Unfortunately, the new Xiaomi Redmi 3 was released for the Chinese market only. However, it is expected the budget smartphone will be available in the U.S. as well as on the Brazilian market in addition to other Asian markets.
Redmi 3 comes as the majority of Xiaomi handsets with dual-SIM. Moreover, 4G networks are supported, albeit the U.S. being restricted to 3G connectivity. If you’re looking to get your hands on the latest Xiaomi release, have a bit of patience. Xiaomi typically launches its devices in the U.S. complete with Google services. The Chinese market doesn’t benefit from Xiaomi devices coming with Gmail or Maps for instance. Thus, if you’re looking for the full suite of Google apps to be readily available on the Redmi 3, patience is recommended.
