An ex NASA astronaut and inhabitant of the International Space Station, who spent almost 230 days in space shares his opinions on aliens, technology, and human life. He believes we are arrogant to assume that aliens do not exist.
Leroy Chiao was in space four times, and he did six spacewalks. He sees the discovery of an Earth candidate as a confirmation of his suspicions that space allows other life forms to thrive too. Astronomers say that the Proxima b planet is relatively close to us, and it resembles Earth.
Chiao also shared his bleak vision of the humans’ future:
The former NASA astronaut thinks the universe holds many forms of life. Those who believe otherwise are arrogant, in his opinion. Chiao also says that it is natural that one day, Earth will be unfit for life. This is going to happen either through natural causes or because of people harming it. To Chiao, it’s part of the natural progression process, similar to our own lives which end. He does not believe that technology can do anything to save us. He also noted that life could start in other corners of space, as our place dies out. We can’t find out about it because of the huge distances involved.
A committee on Science, Space and Technology has told congress in 2014 that depending on the funding, we could discover life within 20 years’ time. This is because conditions for life are ripe in a variety of places from the Milky Way galaxy.
A popular television astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson is another believer in alien life. He says there are many arguments worth looking at which suggest we are not alone in space. Most of his colleagues take into consideration the probability of life existing someplace else than Earth.
Tyson suggests that if we think of the solar system as having an average number of planets, then there are more planets in space than all of the words and sounds pronounced by every human who has lived on this planet.
There are however, some scientists who believe quite the opposite. William Borucki, a famous NASA scientist, who discovered many new planets, argued that if aliens would exist, we would have found out by now for sure.
He says that the evidence and the fact that we have not been contacted points to our singularity in space.
