A new study found a link between obese parents and the mental development of their children.

Obesity is known for causing a lot of problems including diabetes, stroke, and heart diseases. Until now it was believed that obesity only affect the person who is overweighed but this is not the case. Since parents have a great influence on their children mental development, obese parents can harm their children.

A new study found a link between obese parents and the mental development of their children. The study showed that if the parents are obese or overweight their children tend to develop slower than they should.

The researchers found that the problem can differ if only one of the parents is obese. For instance, if the mother is obese the children tend to have motor skill issues while the children who have obese fathers tend to be socially incompetent.

When both of the parents are obese their children might experience some issues when it comes to problem-solving. The problem is that in the US 20% of pregnant women are obese. This means that a lot of children are born with development problems.

The researchers mentioned that their study is different from the ones made previously because they also focused on the fathers of the children. Most of the other studies only focused on the mothers and that is why the results are different.

This study revealed that more than 70% of children with obese mothers tended to fail their motor skill tests when they were 3 years old. Also, more than 75% of children with obese fathers had problems when it came to personal-social tests at the same age.

The children whose parents were both obese were more likely to fail their problem-solving tests at the same age. The researchers mentioned that there are limitations to the study. They also said that they need to make more studies on this topic in order to know for sure how the children of obese parents are affected by their parent’s weight.

The researchers also mentioned that doctors need to be more careful when it comes to obese pregnant women because their babies might suffer some problems even before they are born. More studies on the topic are going to show if children with obese parents have mental development problems.
